With over 100 years in business, Coca Cola decides to expand their portfolio into the Alcoholic market. The world’s largest soda company wants to create a drink similar to the already popular Japanese alcoholic pop drink, “Chu-Hi” made from shochu containing about 3-8% alcohol. Shochu is a popular distilled beverage in Japan. Sales of this drink have indicated it is popular with females.
There are no plans to bring this new drink to the U.S. according to Scott Leith, spokesperson for the company. However, this isn’t the first time Coca Coal has launched an experimental drink in Japan. Last Spring, the company introduced Coca Coal Plus, which contained fiber.
In 1977, Founder John Pemberton, launched a coca wine, made with French wine and cocaine. Laws at the time made him redesign the drink to what we currently know as Coca Cola.
